Modi is Adopting Anti-People Policies: Jairam Ramesh
HYDERABAD: Stating that countdown has started for Narendra Modi Government, AICC general secretary, Jairam Ramesh, today alleged that Modi was adopting Anti-People policies. He said Modi betrayed the people of Andhra Pradesh by not according special status.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday on Modi’ sone-year rule, Ramesh said during the election campaign Modi had assured Andhra Pradesh that he would provide 10 times better package.
“But in practice, nothing has happened and the state was left in lurch. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu remained silent even though he knows everything about Andhra Pradesh Re-organization Act,” he said.
Responding to Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy’s letter to Modi, Ramesh said the Congress disassociated with Gutha’s letter 100 percent. “I don’t know whether the party high command would respond to it or not. Gutha has a right to address such a letter to the prime minister in his personal capacity”, he opined.
Describing the Modi Government as a ‘Selfish-government”, Ramesh alleged that Modi speaks about government, but his aides were implementing communal agenda of BJP government. “Modi was striving for personal prestige and the nation was experiencing one-man rule”, he said.
He also said the BJP Government, which earlier opposed GSE agreement with the US took a U-turn by implementing GSE agreement. The prime minister was bypassing his own cabinet, he added.
Ramesh said Modi had succeeded only in political marketing in the last one year and achieved nothing more than that. He said the government had cut budget to education, health, drinking, sanitation, child and women welfare schemes, and its impact could not be explained.
He also alleged that Modi Government’s policies were “anti-farmer and anti-agriculture”. He said the Congress has got oxygen in the form of Land Acquisition Bill.
Ramesh said the BJP Government incurred people’s displeasure in Delhi elections, and the ruling party would face the same fate in Bihar elections, too. The Congress will campaign in Bihar against the BJP, he said. “No doubt the Congress was facing severe problems by losing elections at center and in five States, but it was resurrecting due to faulty policies of the BJP government”, he explained.
Ramesh alleged that Modi has broken a political tradition by criticizing opposition parties outside India. “Congress never did such things and behaved like Indians outside India,” he said. “People were very clear about Modi’s rule”, he said, adding that Land Acquisition Bill will open the doors to acquire land forcibly harming farming community.
He said it is right time for Rahul Gandhi to assume party president post.
