Ministers launch Fine Rice scheme

  • Tummala, Harish, Pocharam distribute in districts
  • Solar Project at Gattu to start soon

Hyderabad, January 1: To cater to the food needs of poor and BPL category people, the TRS government today launched Re 1-a-kg fine rice scheme across the State. The ministers concerned launched the rice distribution program at their respective districts.

Speaking on the occasion, the ministers claimed that TRS is a poor-friendly government. The Government began the fine rice distribution program aimed at giving 6 kg rice per head of a family. The scheme will help about 2.95 crore people in the State. The Government will provide adequate food grains to the poor, who are awaiting a helping hand, they said. While Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao launched the rice scheme in Medak district, Energy Minister Cherlakola Lakshma Reddy did so in Mahbubnagar, Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao in Khammam and Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy in Nizamabad.

Harish Rao said the State government will keep its promises of providing substantial quantity of fine rice to poor, land and shelter to the needy and implementation of welfare schemes. Lakshma Reddy asked the farmers to go in for alternative crops as there might be problem of power supply to regular crops of paddy. Solar power project at Gattu near Gadwal in the district will begin soon, he said, adding that delay was due to land acquisition problem.

The Government is planning to tide over the power crisis in three years by setting up power plants at various districts. Nageswara Rao said they will transform Telangana State to outshine Gujarat. Taking part in a lunch program with students at Gurukul School here, the minister said adequate funds will be spent for ring road and the State will witness rapid growth. The government was ready to pump in adequate funds to water grid, outer ring roads, lakes restoration and so on, he said. Srinivas Reddy said nutritious food will help pregnant and lactating women. Telangana will overshadow other States in implementing welfare schemes and give fruits of development to poor.
