Militants attack Army in Uri; Rajnath puts off foreign tour
Kashmir: Heavily armed militants attacked Army brigade headquarters in North Kashmir’s Uri town on Sunday morning at around 5:30 am. The reports say that explosions were heard and intense firings between army and militants continued as it is estimated that there might be 2-3 militants with arms inside the Uri town.
The army commander monitoring the operations from Baramulla said that the entire town has been sealed with security and approach roads connecting Line Of Control (LOC) have been tightened. He added that three choppers have been sent to Uri town from Baramulla.
Army officials believe that the militants might have crossed the LOC during night and entered Uri town as it is barely any distance from LOC.
An army spokesperson said “We are ascertaining whether the attack is on brigade headquarters or any other installation in the town”.
Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had postponed his visit to Russia and USA due to the situation in Kashmir.
