Meira Kumar Files Nomination
New Delhi: The presidential candidate of united opposition and former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar filed her nomination on Wednesday. She was flanked by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other senior opposition leaders. On Tuesday Meira Kumar said that she would launch her campaign at Sabarmati Ashram on June 30. The scrutiny of nominations will be completed on June 29. More: Meira Kumar Says It’s A War Of Ideology
Congratulating on her filing of nomination, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi tweeted in her support.
He said, “Against the ideology of divisiveness she represents the values that bind us as a nation & people are proud to have Meira Kumariji as our candidate.
The Congress Chief Ministers from Punjab-Amarinder Singh, Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah and Puducherry’s Narayanasamy were present when Meira Kumar filed the papers in Parliament before the Lok Sabha Secretary General, the returning officer for the presidential election. Opposition leaders, including NCP’s Sharad Pawar, CPM’s SItaram Yechury, Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien and others representing DMK, SP, BSP, RJD, JMM etc. were also present.
