What Sachin, Rekha Did In Rajya Sabha?

Tendulkar is busy with IPL and Rekha with films, and a question arises for a common man, is it right to send celebrities to RS with this type of attitude?

New Delhi: Parties give place for celebrities in Rajya Sabha as a role model or icon with a purpose to use them for election campaign. But the purpose of sending celebrities is not served. The common man is disappointed that the celebrities are not doing any thin worthwhile in the Parliament.

The celebrities do not have time to raise the public issues at least. For instance, Sachin Tendulkar and Rekha, who made the country proud in their respective fields, have miserably failed as RS members. Both these members who are representing the Congress from 2012 had a poor attendance in RS and the amount or daily expenditure on them shocks the nation.

As per a report of a data journalism portal, salary and perks paid to Rekha is ₹ 65 lakh per session and for Tendulakar it is around ₹ 59 lakh.

Out of 348 working days of RS, Rekha attended only 18 days and Tendulkar was there for 23 days.

Ind VS Aus: Series Still Open, Says Sachin

Mumbai: After a humiliating loss by India against Australia, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar came up with a message to lift spirits of Indian team.

It is a tough Test match for India. It is a part and parcel of the game, loss in first test doesn’t mean that series is lost, it is still wide open, Sachin said in a message to Indian Team.

I know the spirit of Indian team very well, they will bounce back, Australian team knows very well about this becoz when we beat them , we knew that they will try hard to come back , I have no doubt that Indian team will fight and compete in coming tests, he added.

Another legend of Indian cricket Sunil Gavaskar was not convinced with the performance of Indian team in second innings. Completing match in half an hour after tea is not acceptable, Indian batsmen should learn to stay at the crease, he felt after Indian team collapsed for 107 in second innings.

Finishing two innings in 75 overs shows the carelessness of Indian team which disappoints, this is one of the worst defeats I have seen, Sunil Gavaskar added.

There were serious concerns in Indian team after Australia defeated home team in just 3 days. Former players criticized the curator of pitch which was not prepared according to the need of the team and that was the main cause for Indian defeat. They should not forget about the visiting team which fought well on the same pitch with bat and ball.

Sachin plays it his way!

Some call it marketing strategy and some call it as just being honest, Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s autobiography, “Playing It My Way” that released last week, created a lot of discussion and speculation. Here’s what Tendulkar said in his book that has made it a sensation.

There is a chapter titled ‘Endulkar (an obvious reference to an article that appeared with the same header, in English news daily, criticising Sachin and asking him to retire)

  • Ex-coach Greg Chappell wanted to replaceRahul Dravidwith Sachin as captain.
  • Ian Chappell had said after the World Cup that Sachin Tendulkar should take a ‘good long look in the mirror’ and think about retiring. Sachin says, “The outrage in India was not helped by armchair experts sitting thousands of miles away but still passing judgment on Indian cricket and suggesting I should retire’.
  • Sachin fails to understand why Indian publications should publish an Australian’s opinion on Indian cricket and “Will Australian publications allow an Indian player to get headlines in their newspapers”.
  • Tendulkar metIan Chappell in Durban in 2010. The latter tried to take credit for the former’s renewed phase of good form, and that Tendulkar had followed his advice. Sachin told Chappell in no uncertain terms that he had ‘not changed a thing’ since his low phase in the mid-2000s and not to comment without ‘knowing what is going through a player’s body or mind’.

‘Monkeygate’ scandal which rocked cricket during India’s tour of Australia in 2007-08: During the second Test at Sydney there was a tiff between off spinner Harbhajan Singhand Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds. Singh was partnering with Tendulkar when the incident happened and it nearly led to the cancellation of India’s tour of Australia.

  • Symonds had alleged that Harbhajan used a racially inappropriate word – ‘monkey’ – a slight on Symonds’ appearance. However, Harbhajan, and Sachin Tendulkar who was batting at the other end, stuck to the version that Harbhajan had called Symonds ‘terimaaki’ – a Hindi expletive.
  • “Harbhajan never used the word monkey; he called Symonds ‘terimaaki’ which I heard at the other end. Symonds had been abusing Harbhajan for a long time in an effort to rile him up, and Harbhajan upto that point had been reasonably courteous to Symonds and the other Australian players.”
  • Harbhajan lost his cool and reacted impulsively. The after-match hearing about the incident was conducted in an unfair manner. The Indian and Australian teams were made to testify separately, while the other team was not present in the room. This creates suspicion. Sachin also criticises Mike Procter, the match referee, who made an official statement claiming that ‘only one team is telling the truth’.
  • Despite the public camaraderie between the two sides before the Perth Test, the air was full of tension, and the Indian team felt that the hearing had been unfair.
  • It was only because of a massive protest against the judgement banning Harbhajan Singh for three Tests that the tour was continued. “Kumble handled the issue with extreme maturity.”
