MANUU awards D Litt for Shahrukh Khan

Hyderabad: Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan and Urdu aficionado and founder of Rekhta Foundation Sanjiv Saraf were awarded honorary D Litt for their extraordinary contribution in the promotion of Urdu language and culture, at the 6th Convocation of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) on Monday.

MANUU Vice-Chancellor Zafar Younus Sareshwala awarded the degrees. Speaking on the occasion, Shahrukh Khan said education is a necessary component for every individual and people should choose their career on the basis of their strengths. He said the students should develop creative confidence and growth mindset in them to reach their goals. Students should translate insights into action and change behavior to produce desired results. Appropriate risk-taking, learning from failures are very important things to get success, he added.

Chancellor Zafar Younus Sareshwala said MANUU has been playing a crucial role in the promotion of Urdu language. It facilitates higher education in Urdu medium through regular and distance modes of education with a focus on women’s education.  About 2,885 graduates and post graduate students and 276 M-Phil and PhD from various disciplines in regular courses were awarded with degrees. At the same time 44,235 graduates and post-graduates from the distance mode were given degrees in absentia contribution in the promotion of Urdu language. -NSS
