- Farmers’ Fury at CM
Bengaluru: Ambareesh, Kannada Cine hero, has become the butt of a joke in the ongoing agitation over the Supreme Court decision on Cauvery river waters. Farmer had blocked the highway at Mandya for the second day.
Ambareesh acted in a film titled ‘Mandyada Gandadu’ (Hero of Mandya). The irate youth ask loudly, ‘Where is Mandyada Gandadu?’ The hero is the local MLA and was a minister in Siddaramaiah cabinet till last year holding Housing portfolio. The film released in 1994 has a title song which is very popular even today. The young agitators are upset that Ambareesh is yet to be seen.
The Congress leaders who dared to venture to the area promised that the government would file a crevice petition. They explained that the government cannot defy the apex court. ‘There is no water for us. How can Sidda give water to Tamil Nadu?’, questions an angry young man.
The BJP leaders have been carefully watching the developments as the farmers fight it out with the government. Farmers’ leader Shanthakumar flayed Chief Minister Suddaramaiah for failing the farmers for the second successive year. The farmers demanded that the CM should defy the SC. in the Cauvery delta area of Mandya and Mysury, 258 Farmers had committed suicide in one year. The opposition blamed the CM for mishandling the situation.
The Congress party is in the defensive. He ruling party in the State planned to blame the ruling oarty at the centre for not being able to convince Tamil Nadu government. He Confess us trying to remind the people that the BJP government in Karnataka did worse when similar situation arose in 2012-13. The present turmoil is likely to continue at least till Friday when a bandh would be observed.
