MAA results around April 17: City Court
HYDERABAD: After a long wait, the much hyped results of elections held for Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA) got a clearance with City Civil Court. The Court directed the Election Officer Krishna Mohan to announce the results of the MAA elections by conducting the counting of votes, on April 17 or 18. Results will be announced within a short time of beginning of counting of votes that were polled through electronic voting machines.
Besides passing strictures on film Producer Kalyan for wasting its time, the court quashed his petition seeking stalling of the results for alleged irregularities. The court also slapped the producer with 10,000 rupees penalty for trying to misguide the court and elections process, according to information. Unfazed at this, Kalyan is likely to move to High Court against the results.
Earlier, the court heard the case twice and adjourned the verdict giving panic to the contestants and film personalities participated in the elections.
The Elections held on Mar 29, and out of 702 voters, 394 film personalities exercised their franchise. Senior actress Jayasudha and senior actor Rajendra Prasad are the main contestants for the MAA president post. Besides, there were other 36 persons contested the elections.
While Jayasudha enjoys the clout of bigwigs of film industry like former MAA president Murali Mohan, senior actor and former Union minister Krishnam Raju and those of Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala family members, it may be noted here that Jayasudha being niece of Vijaya Nirmala gets much needed support from various quarters in Tollywood. The film industry feels that Jayasudha is likely to get the crown. Meanwhile, Rajendra Prasad got support from Nagendra Babu, brother of Megastar Chiranjeevi, and other small-time actors. (NSS)
