Lakes revival programme: Awards for media
Hyderabad: The Irrigation Department has invited entries from media houses, including newspapers, electronic media, online media and freelance journalists, on the flagship programme of Mission Kakatiya.
The entries on lakes revival programme and its impact on the lives of Telangana people — stories, articles, items and information published, telecast from January 1 to December 31, 2016 — will be accepted for the cash prize by January 31, 2017.
The Irrigation Department has decided to offer cash prizes to the print and electronic media. First prize will be Rs 1 lakh; second prize Rs 75,000 and third prize will be Rs 50,000 in print, electronic and online media. Besides, online and freelance journalists can also send their entries of analytical, research stories, documentaries, short films and video songs on the lakes revival programme. Entries should reach the OSD, Irrigation Ministry, D Block, Telangana Secretariat, by January 31, 2017.
In a press release here, Sridhar Rao Deshpande, Officer on Special Duty, Irrigation Department, said it was decided to give cash prizes to the media for playing key role in giving wide publicity through writing special stories, articles and telecasting and airing articles on lakes restoration programme. While the government has been implementing the lakes revival programme in a big way, the water bodies, tanks and reservoirs got abundant water during last rainy season
The media has played a pivotal role in propagating the news related to lakes revival programme, he added. Entries should comprise topics such as crop yield, use of organic fertilizers, sectors and professions dependent on lakes, migrations, agriculture workers, rural development programmes, fluorosis eradication, ground waters, socio-economic situation of people, living standards of people, Telangana culture and development and research on the history of lakes. -NSS
