KVP Locks Horns With Naidu On Polavaram
Amaravati: Congress Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao has challenged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to complete the Polavaram Project by 2019 as being claimed, and said he would confer the title of “Apara Bhageeradha” on him and also work hard to get him the highest civilian award, Bharata Rathna.
Rao further said that he would dedicate rest of his life to serve Naidu if the project is completed as claimed by the TDP leaders, including Naidu himself.
Claiming that he had been playing key role in the project, Ramachandra Rao also dared Chandababu Naidu to prove the charges that he was creating problems for the project. He alleged Naidu of projecting himself as architect of the project and wondered what he had done for the project between 1995 and 2004.
Rao said that the project was launched in 1982 and all permissions were secured between 2004 and 2009. He claimed that he played an important role supporting the efforts of late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in getting clearances from the Central government and also completing the right and left main canals of the project. He further said that he had played crucial role in getting the project included in the bifurcation Act and that was also the contribution of the Congress.
Even in the merger of the seven mandals with Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation, he said it was only the Congress that had taken the initiative, while the NDA had completed the process.
Against all these facts, he said Naidu was taking the credit as if it was his lifetime dream, he said, and wondered what Naidu had done for the project.
“You have been using the two canals dug by Congress government under Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, supervising the work for which clearances were secured by the Congress government and was enjoying the funds guaranteed by the Congress government,” the Congress MP said.
Rao also accused Naidu of taking the execution part of the project only to take bribes from the contractors and not to complete the project. The lift irrigation schemes on both the canals too were planned by Naidu only for the kickbacks, he alleged. He wondered where would be Pattiseema and Purushottapatnam without the left and right main canals completed by Rajasekhar Reddy.
Rao also took strong exception to the allegations that he was creating hurdles for the project works and wondered that Naidu could not have started the works had he been not actively following up the project works with the Central government. He sought to advise Naidu to stop taking credits for the Congress contribution and blaming the Congress again.
