Kodandaram to lead rythu dharna
- At Indira Park on Sunday
Hyderabad: The Telangana Rythu Joint Action Committee is organizing a dharna at Indira Park in Hyderabad today (October 23) from 10 am to 2 pm to highlight the agriculture crisis in the state. It is a known fact that a prolonged dry spell followed by heavy rains and floods had dealt a huge blow to farmers in Telangana.
For the first time after formation of Telangana State, Telangana Political JAC chairman M Kodandaram will take part in the dharna along with hundreds of farmers from various districts. Former legislators, women activists, university professors, doctors, lawyers and students are expected to join the dharna to express sympathy and solidarity with the distressed farmers in the state. A spokesperson of the Telangana Rythu JAC appealed to the people to join the agitation and help make it a big success.
Meanwhile, the state committee of Telangana Rashtra Communist Party (TRCP) has extended its support to the dharna. TRCP General Secretary Mandagadda Vikram Kumar stated that after the formation of Telangana State, lakhs of farmers suffered huge losses due to drought conditions and floods in August – September this year. As a result, the farmers were not able to repay bank loans. Some of them faced even personal and family problems, Kumar said in a press release on the eve of the dharna. They feel let down by the state government, he said, adding the demoralized farmers had committed suicides.
