KCR Launches Palamur Lift Irrigation Project at Bhootpur

HYDERABAD: Striking an emotional chord in the backward Mahbubnagar district that was neglected for decades in the irrigation sector by successive governments, Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao today said only a few politicians like him will get a rare opportunity to serve better and share the difficult times of the people.

“We will quench the thirst of the people who were put to untold misery and hardship for each drop and cleanse the feet of the Palamur by Krishna waters,” he said.

Unveiling a pylon for the much-awaited Palamur Lift Irrigation Project and laying foundation stone at Bhootpuron Thursday, the chief minister declared that work would begin only after filling the stomachs of the people getting displaced for the project. The project is affecting only three tribal hamlets, and all those would get jobs and two bedroom houses to pave way for the project that brings the irrigation waters.

Taking a dig at successive governments for showing partisan attitude towards the districtthat was famous for migration, Rao announced that his government was committed to spend 35,200 crore rupees for the completion of the project. On completion, the project would irrigate seven-lakh acres in Mahbubnagar district and another three-lakh acres in Ranga Reddy district and provide drinking waters.

Directing the district collector to conduct a special drive to provide jobs to the affected families, Rao said Karivena and Vattem villages would get waters in two years and the entire Palamur would get abundant waters and lush greenery in four years. He also said he would inspect the work once in two weeks by staying there in a guest house nearby.

KCR conducts aerial survey at Palamur

To take stock of the land availability and bringing Srisailam waters to the backward Mahbubnagar district, Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao today conducted aerial survey at Bhutpur. Later, he held a review meeting with Irrigation minister Harish Rao, Minister Jagadish Reddy and officials on the Palamur lift project. He asked the officials to expedite the process of the work to ensure irrigation waters to farm sector in the district. (NSS)
