Sayar Ahmad Sheikh, a 26 year old from Shopian district was killed by teargas shell and a 23 year old Yawar Bhat was killed with pellet gun in Anantnag district by army forces. Pellet guns have not been completely banned and the field commanders were asked to use them sparingly based on the situation. To minimize the usage of pellet guns, more than 4,000 Pelargonic Acid Amide (PAVA) shells have been arranged in Kashmir.
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said “Another youth killed in Shopian and it is extremely saddening. The doctors who are working in the valley are doing service for 24 hours, without going home”.
For over two months most parts of Kashmir have been under curfew with schools and colleges closed. The valley has been reeling under unrest since Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani was killed by armed forces. With the latest killings, the death toll rose to 78 people including one security personnel.
