Jana Sena announces Telangana unit
- A new challenge to Chandrababu
Hyderabad: Jana Sena chief and noted Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan has reportedly appointed Telangana unit leaders to take the party activities into the people. Apparently, he took this key decision on Sunday to strengthen his party in Telangana with an eye on the next general elections in 2019.
The Jana Sena, which recently got the Election Commission recognition as a political party, has named three members to steer Telangana unit. They are: B Mahender Reddy, V Shankar Goud and Hari Prasad. While Shankar Goud is in charge of Telangana State unit, Mahender Reddy will coordinate the party affairs and Hari Prasad will look into media affairs and publicity.
It is learnt that Pawan Kalyan will announce AP unit leaders soon. He is weighing pros and cons of the present political situation in Andhra Pradesh and wants to get into active politics. The Jana Sena decision comes at a time when Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham is fighting for the cause of his community.
The Jana Sena is expected to create ripples in political circles if the Kapu community supports his leadership in future. His elder brother Chiranjeevi unsuccessfully contested the 2004 elections with Praja Rajyam and merged it with Congress only to become a central minister later on. However, Chiranjeevi is not likely to change loyalties and will not join Jana Sena, APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy said.
The implication of Jana Sena’s decision is Pawan Kalyan is distancing away from the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh. Though he recently supported Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on a few issues, he opposed land acquisition and capital city construction causing problems to the land givers. Now, it is clear that he will take on the TDP and opposition YSRCP in AP in the general elections to be held in 2019. It is pertinent to note that a few days ago he announced that he would be shifting his base to Andhra Pradesh and enroll in the voter list in Eluru of West Godavari district.
