Jana Reddy’s Meeting with Keshava Rao Raises Eyebrows
HYDERABAD: Senior Congressman and Leader of the Opposition in Telangana Assembly Jana Reddy called on TRS Secretary-General Keshava Rao on Wednesday morning.
The unexpected meeting between the two senior leaders raised eyebrows and evoked discussions among the political circles.
Some political analysts felt Jana Reddy might have called on Rao in connection with the ensuing MLC elections. They said Reddy had close relations with Rao when the latter was in the Congress, and the former might have met his old friend in connection with the MLC elections seeking TRS help.
With the ruling TRS eyeing on the fifth MLC seat, the election has become a prestige issue for all parties. The analysts are not able to guess whether Jana Reddy met Rao to request him to spare the fifth seat to the Congress or for any other reason. As the Congress has a chance of winning the fifth MLC seat, the Congress high command is likely to announce its candidate on Wednesday evening.
According to the reports, some 40 Congress leaders were aspiring ticket for the fifth MLC seat. It is said that for one seat, senior and junior Congress leaders were trying their luck and started lobbying in Delhi.
Senior party leaders say AICC president Sonia Gandhi might take responsibility of selecting the candidate. But, if Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi intervenes, the junior in the party may be considered. The party high command may consult TPCC Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jana Reddy in this connection.
