Jairam Ramesh Flays Venkaiah Naidu
New Delhi: Jairam Ramesh, former union minister, criticised Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu for lying repeatedly to the people of Andhra Pradesh. Jairam described the language used by Naidu undignified and unbecoming of a senior politician. Venkaiah Naidu is indulging in falsehood and brinkmanship in order to improve his chances for being nominated as Vice President of India, said the Congress leader.
The lie often repeated by Venkaiah Naidu was that the 14th Finance Commission had recommended abolition of Special Category Status. The Finance Commission never recommended the abolition of Special Status. It was the decision of the Modi government, Jairam said categorically.
By denying Special category to AP, the state is made to be deprived of Rs 60 thousand crore every year, he claimed. He also said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah were misleading Prime Minister Narendra Modi. For Naidu it is not Satyameva Jayate but it is Asatyameva Jayate.
Section 90 (4) of the AP Reorganisation Act explicitly states that the responsibility of executing the Polavaram Multipurpose Project lies with the Centre. It is not proper to transfer the responsibility of constructing the project to the State government in order to please Chandrababu Naidu. To give the job of constructing the project to the State, the Act has to be amended. Congress party will not support such an amendment. Chandrababu Naidu wants the project for favouring his contractor-friends, Jairam said.
