Jaipal slams Ravi Shankar for belittling Nehru
Hyderabad: Taking a serious exception to the remarks made by Union Minister for Information Technology & Electronics Ravi Shanker Prasad against first prime minister of independent India Jawaharlal Nehru, former union minister S Jaipal Reddy has alleged that the formeras remarks were filled with conspiracy. He ridiculed the BJP saying that they have no love for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel but were using his name only to criticize Nehru.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Saturday along with PCC vice-president Mallu Ravi, Jaipal Reddy said it was atrocious on the part of Ravi shanker Prasad to make such insulting remarks against Nehru and praising Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. a?It is a conspiracy of the RSSa?, he said. Terming the RSS as a a?Rumor Spreading Societya? (RSS), Jaipal Reddy alleged that the RSS had worked as sycophants to the British during Quit India movement while Congress cadre participated in the movement in a?Do or Diea manner.A
Stating that differences had never arisen between Pandit Nehru and Sardar Patel though both participated in the freedom movement for 30 years and lived together in jail for 10 years and worked together for three years, Jaipal Reddy described both as two eyes of the Congress party. Alleging that the BJP leaders donat know the history, Jaipal Reddy slammed the BJP leaders for indulging inA mean politics. He also pointed out that there were Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr B R Ambedkar, Jayaprakash Narayan and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in then Nehru Cabinet. They used to take decisions collectively.A
The former union minister said both Nehru and Patel were disciples of Mahatma Gandhi and ardent Congress leaders, Jaipal said. The BJP leaders, he said, have been campaigning that Kashmir issue would not have arisen now had Sardar Patel was prime minister in freeAIndia. He also reminded that Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, a minister in Nehru Cabinet, was also part and parcel of the decision taken on a?no police actiona? inAKashmir.
Jaipal Reddy pointed out that nations with veto power had not extended support toAIndiaAwith regard toAKashmirAissue. He also made it clear that the Congress would extend total support to the BJP government on whatever decision it takes onAKashmirAissue.A
Dismissing BJP national president Amit Shah as a a?gallia? leader inAGujaratAState, Jaipal Reddy asked the former to speak only after reading history. He said RSS leaders never fought for the sake of the nation. RSS leaders like Veer Savarkar, Devras and others never went to jail but all Congress leaders spent jail terms for fighting for independence of the nation. The BJP leaders have no moral right to criticize Nehru, he said. and advised them to speak after learning history.
