Jagan Or Pavan, Who Will The AP Youth Favour?

Hyderabad: One is a cine star with youth icon and the other is a legatee of late YSR, who is trying their best to grab the youth vote bank for next elections.

YSRCP President Jagan Mohan Reddy is facing tough challenge from Pavan Kalyan who might eat into vote bank of YSRCP. Pavan’s interaction with kidney patients of Uddanam region at Itchapuram, his response to Special Status for AP with alacrity and his reaction to Tamil Nadu’s Jallikattu movement are seen as planned to counter the steps being taken by Jagan. Pavan also interacted with farmers over Mega Aqua food near Bhimavaram. All these actions appear to be creating hurdles for Jagan in gaining momentum and mileage as the opposition.

Even Jagan reacted a bit late to extend support for the Special Status agitation call given by youth on 26th January at RK Beach in Vizag although he has been in the forefront in the movement for special status. Jagan should not, however, neglect ‘P’ factor which is a major cause for his defeat in 2014 elections along with Modi’s wave.

Jana Sena president is creeping slowly into East and West Godavari districts which are strongholds for him with major Kapu community backing him. This is the main reason for him to start party office at Eluru. On the flip side, YS Jagan is strongly depending on the anti- incumbency of TDP rule rather than fighting on local issues.

With Vote bank and large net work in hands, Jagan should come up with a creative programme to counter Jana Sena president who is likely to speed up issues once he retires from the films before 2019 elections. At the same time, Pavan should remove the popular impression that he is working at the behest of TDP by diverting attention of people from opposition campaign to save the skin of Chandrababu Naidu’s government.

YSRCP not contesting in MLC elections sends a wrong message to the cadre who are pinning hopes on their leader for 2019. TDP is mainly depending on the split vote bank between these two leaders along with the cases Jagan is facing.

Though Janasena is a nascent party compared to YSRCP, we should not forget the fact that a mere margin of votes caused major damage to YSRCP due to Pawan kalyan factor in the last elections. With Mudragada fighting for Kapu reservations, Jagan strongly depending on Reddy and SC, ST Communities, result will be in favor of those who receive Kapu vote bank in bulk in next elections.

Jana Sena Chief, totally dependent on his cine glamour, is trying to emerge as a political leader dilating on public issues. Alliance with communist parties is kept on hold by this leader, who on the other side had an idea of allying with Lok Satta and AAP, calculating the political benefits. The Congress party which was routed in the last elections due to bifurcation of AP is not in a position to recover its ground before next elections. in between. It looks like a straight fight between the TDP and the YSRCP with the BJP and the Jana Sena playing supportive roles. As against this background, the role of Jana Sena is going to be crucial.
