It’s Not UP Dalit Vs Bihar Dalit: JD-U Firm On Support To Kovind
New Delhi: The Janata Dal-United (JD-U) clarified that the Presidential election is not a contest between UP Dalit vs Bihar Dalit and their decision to back Ram Nath Kovind is final.
This clarification came a day after the united opposition announced former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar as its candidate for the Presidential polls.
The spokesperson of JD-U, KC Tyagi speaking to a news channel said, “There is no room for a rethink on the issue. We have decided to support NDA candidate Kovind.” See Also: Kovind Files 3 Sets of Nominations for President’s Post
The rift between JD-U and its alliance partner Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) appeared widening as both the coalition partners chose to support different candidates. In this context, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav commented that Nitish Kumar had failed to support a Bihar’s daughter in the contest. Responding to this, Tyagi said that it is not a contest between UP Dalit vs Bihar Dalit or between a male vs female candidate and also not Bihar daughter vs Bihar Governor. Since Kovind has performed extraordinarily as Bihar Governor, we have supported him, he added. See Also: Nitish Declares Support NDA Candidate
“We had proposed the name of Gopal Krishna Gandhi for the post. Nitishji had met UPA chairperson and shared his views with Soniaji and Laluji as well. So no point in raising questions over our decision,” he said.
However, he clarified that the alliance will continue and they are still part of the 17 opposition parties’ alliance. See Also: Mob Lynch DSP To Death In Srinagar
