Indrani Thrashed And Threatened By Jail Authorities, Alleges Lawyer
Mumbai: The lawyers of Indrani Mukerjea, who was booked for rioting in the jail, said that she was beaten and threatened with sexual assault by jail authorities. The media entrepreneur who was prime accused in her daughter Sheena Bora’s murder case was in Mumbai Byculla women’s jail allegedly took part in rioting in the prison after an inmate was allegedly killed by jail authorities.
Her lawyer Gunjan Mangla filed the application before the CBI court saying she fears Indrani had been beaten at the jail. The lawyer met Indrani on Tuesday morning and told the court that she observed bruise marks on hands, head and legs of Indrani. She also said that Indrani has a neurological condition.
The advocate said that Indrani wants to complain against jail officials and show the injuries. Mangla also alleged that her client was assaulted because she gave a statement against the jail officials. The lawyer also pleaded that Indrani should be produced in the court as early as possible. The court deferred the case to July 4.
It is known that Manjula Shete died allegedly at the hands of jail officials at Byculla Jail. The incident occurred when two eggs and five pieces of bread disappeared from the jail which led to a tussle between her and jail officials. While Shete alleged that jail officials wantonly did that and are making her responsible. Shete later died as she received grievous injuries on her head.
The inmates coming to know about it protested when they received thrashing.
