India On Verge Of Series Win Against Australia
Dharmasala: India is on the verge of a series victory against Australia at the end of the third day of the fourth Test here on Monday. Asked to score 106 runs for a win, india were 19 for no loss at stumps.
India needs 87 runs to wrap up the match in the fourth day. Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav were the star performers with the ball for India with Jadeja doing very well with bat also scoring 63 runs. Jadeja took three wickets for 24 runs, Ashwin three for 29 runs and Umesh also took three for 29 runs just like Ashwin. The batting performance by Jadeja was critical to India’s advantage. It helped india to surpass the first innings total of Australia and went on to make 332 runs in its first innings.
The second turning point was the wicket of Australia’s star batsman Stev Smith claimed by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. The pitch was turning providing bounce making it ideal for spinners. Glenn Maxwell and Peter Handscomb with 45 and 18 runs produced a partnership of 56 runs but the rest of the batsmen could not stand up to Indian spinners although Mathew Wade played 90 balls to score 25 runs. Smith appeared invincible till Bhuvaneshwar, who has been suffering from a bad patch, has suddenly got his only wicket of the innings. Australia’s second innings ended at 137 runs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led the team very well. He has shown the natural reflexes of Dhoni.
