India Beats England In Vizag Test
Visakhapatnam: India has beaten England in the second cricket test conclusively by 246 runs here on Monday thanks mainly to Ravichandran Aswin who had registered a match haul of 8 wickets and captain Virat Kohli who scored well in both the innings. The first test ended in a draw and India leads England in the 5-test series 1-0.
Changing a near impossible target of 405 runs, England was all out for 158 runs twenty minutes after lunch on the last day. This victory is India’s second biggest (in terms of runs) victory against England after they won against it at Leeds 30 years ago by 279 runs. Aswin, the leading wicket taker for India in recent series, has turned the tables against England which appeared to be recovering in the first innings. The England team had no chance in the second innings. England which started it’s second innings at 87 for 2 wickets this morning could add only 71 runs before losing the last wicket. Off-spinner Yadav had claimed a very important wicket of Ben Stokes who had scored 70 runs in England’s first innings.
The ace spinner who achieved five-wicket haul in first innings for 22nd time had the first scalp of the day by having Ben Duckett caught behind the wicket for naught. Ducket was there at the crease just for 16 balls. Jayant Yadav, the debutant, and Aswin had taken three wickets each in England’s second innings. Pace bowler Mohammed Shami had felled two wickets. Ravindra Jadeja had sent England’s Moeen Ali to the pavilion with just two runs to his credit.
Virat Kohli, who scored 167 runs in the first innings and 81 in the second, was declared man of the match. While Alastair Cook and Haseeb Hameed, the England batsmen, frustrated the Indian bowlers for two session of the 4th day, the host had ensured the collapse of the England second innings on the final day with hours to spare. As usual, Kohli won the toss and won the match.
