Hyderabad Drugs Case: At Least 50 Police Teams Search Residences Of Foreign Nationals
Hyderabad: Search operations were held in the city by Hyderabad Police on Thursday at the residences of several foreign nationals.
A majority of the residences that the police searched belonged to Africans.
Police officials and intelligence and immigration department formed into 50 teams took up the searches in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police station limits in the city beginning at early hours.
The officials verified visas and other documents of foreign nationals, including students to confirm if they were staying legally.
The teams found that some foreign nationals were staying in the city even after the expiry of their visas and said that the process will be started to deport them.
It may be recalled that the Special Task Force of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department took a South African national into custody from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad for allegedly carrying cocaine in the first week of August.
The Excise Department, which busted drugs racket in the city and arrested many drug peddling gangs also arrested a Netherlander, Mike Kamminga on July 26 from his residence. The officials claimed that he possessed drugs.
The police searched many residences in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Mehdipatnam, Asif Nagar, Toli Chowki, Bandlaguda, Alwal, LB Nagar, Neredmet and surrounding areas were searched.
