Hung Assembly In Goa
Panaji: People of Goa have voted for a hung Assembly. Chief Minister Parsekar lost his election The opposition Congress has got 17 seats and the ruling BJP has won 13 seats. Independents and others have bagged ten seats.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which raised hopes of winning some seats ended up without opening its account. The Maharashtra Gomantak Party has won two seats and it declared its support to the BJP even before the counting of votes on Saturday.
21 is the magic number in the 40-member Goa Assembly. No party has got that number. There is scope for horse-trading in the absence of a clear majority to any party. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar who was earlier the chief minister of Goa before getting elevated to vented had spent a couple of weeks in Goa to monitor the party campaign. The people, however, have given a fractured mandate.
