- Ponnala Laxmaiah in a mess
- Harish Rao exposed former Congress minister
- TRS forces the issue
Hyderabad, November 26: In the Telangana Assembly on Wednesday, Minister Harish Rao made a case against former AP Congress Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah. He accused Laxmaiah of taking over 8.8 acres of SC/ST assigned lands. This act was illegal as per the relevant Act, carrying a maximum punishment of 6 months or Rs 10,000 or both. The Minister revealed that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) remarked that Ponnala Laxmaiah was indeed guilty of the offence, having in 2005 wrongfully purchased the lands at only Rs 25,000 per acre from AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).
As such, rules do not permit the sale or purchase of assigned lands. Rao also mentioned that Laxmaiah‘s acquired lands even had poultry farms situated on them. Finally, the Assembly decided to constitute a House committee to investigate all illegally encroached- upon assigned lands in all ten districts of Telangana. TRS members, including Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) insisted that a House Committee be appointed to go into all kinds of land grabbing in and around Hyderabad. Opposition members also demanded the same. Speaker Madhusudana Chary bowed to the collective wish of the House and announced his decision to appoint a committee.
