Hostel Warden Orders Girls To Take Off Clothes
Surekha Tomar, the warden at Kasturba Gandhi residential girls school at Digri village in Muzaffarnagar district, UP, is believed to have asked the students to take off their clothes to check for menstrual blood.
This shocking incident took place on Thursday, but came to light only on Sunday when it was reported by Dainik Bhaskar. The warden has been suspended for allegedly making around 70 girls strip to check for menstrual blood in the bathroom. The local education department has initiated an enquiry into the matter. The parents of the victims have filed a complaint.
“Some blood was found in the bathroom. The warden ordered us to remove our clothes. It was very humiliating for all of us. We want action against her,” one of the students told CNN-News18.
In her defence, Surekha Tomar told the reporters, “nothing of the sort happened. Some blood was found on the floor and wall of the bathroom. I wanted to check if everything was all right with the girls. Such young girls are sometimes unable to express… I just asked them if anything was wrong.” In a denial mood she adds, “it is a conspiracy against me by other staff members who want me to leave”.
The warden allegedly threatened the students of dire consequences if they disobeyed her command, said District Primary Education Officer Chander Kesh Yadav, adding that an enquiry has been ordered.
Meanwhile, 35 students of the school have left after the reports of stripping surfaced. Minister for power Sharad Kumar Yadav has condemned the incident.
