Heavy Rain Lashes Vizag
Visakhapatnam: A sudden downpour lashed the city bringing normal life to a standstill on Wednesday morning. All the low-lying areas were flooded with water and the vehicular traffic on the main thoroughfares came to an abrupt halt.
With drain water logging under the Chavulamadum Junction flyover, vehicles heading for various industries took roundabout routes to drop their employees at workplaces. Streets and roads in One Town, Kancharapalem, Marripalem, Maddilapalem, KRM Colony and Railway New Colony were covered with sheets of water. A lorry swerved into the drainage at Hanumanthuwaka while navigating in the logged water. Accompanied by strong winds the rain forced the APEPDCL staff to cut off power for a brief period in many areas.
The Meteorological Department stated the south-west monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh, west central and north-west Bay of Bengal, some parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
Further advancement of monsoon is likely in the coming 3-4 days in some parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha and in the remaining parts of West Bengal and Marathwada.
