Heavy down pour in Hyderabad: 7 died
Hyderabad: 7 persons died including a mother, and two daughters on Wednesday morning as heavy rain lashed Hyderabad from early morning. These deaths occurred at Ramantapur and Bholakpur in Musheerabad.
Water logging of roads, house collapses and inundation of several slums were reported in many parts of the city.
Three to five centimeters of rain has been recorded between 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. in several parts of the city. Amberpet area recorded highest of 9.5 cm. followed by Malkajgiri 8.3 cm and Khairatabad 6.5 cm.
The met department forecasted moderate to heavy rains due to depression in Bay of Bengal. The heavy rains caused a lot of hardships to the commuters including school going children. At many road junctions traffic jam persisted for more than two hours.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao expressed shock over the deaths and announced Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia to the bereaved families.
GHMC Commissioner B. Janardan Reddy and Mayor B. Rammohan supervised the emergency relief measures.
