Harvard Expert lauds Green Energy Initiatives of AP
HYDERABAD: An Energy efficiency & Renewable Energy expert from Harvard University Dr. David Cash has welcomed and appreciated the initiatives of Andhra Pradesh Government in energy efficiency and renewable energy (green energy) front, particularly, Solar Power development and distribution of LED bulbs in Domestic sector and replacement of street lights with LED fixtures. He was also pleased to note that within a short period of eight to ten months, AP has become a pioneer in LED revolution in the country.
In order to give an impetus to the development of Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency activities in the State, Justice Bhavani Prasad, APERC Chairman, has arranged an interactive session with Cash, in association with US Consulate, on the topic of “Regulating Utilities to Unleash Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy” on Friday at APERC Conference Hall here.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Prasad stated that the APERC is committed for the betterment of the power sector in the state and recognizes that Energy efficiency is a significant activity for achieving long term goals for the benefit of present generation and posterity. Commissions intend is to formulate and issue a policy on Energy Conservation & Efficiency for regulating and supporting the initiatives of the AP DISCOMs for the ultimate benefit of the consumers in the state. Further, the Chairman has appealed the electricity consumers in the state to support the noble cause of energy conservation & efficiency.
Cash said that Massachusetts has taken several measures in encouraging solar power development particularly roof-top based and imposing energy efficiency norms on Consumers and Utilities for better unleashing the benefits of energy conservation in order to postpone the capacity development, thereby, saving economic resources.
