Handlooms, handicrafts to get a boost

  • Golconda showrooms in district headquarters

Hyderabad: Textiles & Handlooms Minister KT Rama Rao said on Wednesday that the TRS government was committed to promote and boost handlooms and handicrafts in Telangana.

At a review meeting held at the Secretariat, KTR directed Commissioner Shailaja Ramaiyar and officials to open Golconda (old name Lepakshi) showrooms in district headquarters and promote in a big way the handlooms and handicrafts. Golconda is being named for the handicrafts business by the government to reflect the age-old culture and traditions of the state. The state government was ready to fund Golconda showrooms in Siricilla, Warangal, Siddipet on pilot basis and will be expanded to others in a phased manner.

KTR took various decisions to encourage Nirmal artisans by opening a common facility centre at Nirmal by spending Rs 1.5 crore, Jhari and Firdousi workshop for Muslim women in Medak, handicrafts training centre for youth in Hyderabad. -NSS
