Greater Hyderabad to be developed in a well-planned manner

  • Assembly passes GHMC Buildings Tribunal Bill

Hyderabad: The Telangana Legislative Assembly passed the GHMC Buildings Tribunal Bill on Wednesday.

Introducing the Bill in the House, Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development K Taraka Rama Rao said Greater Hyderabad will be developed in a well-planned manner. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was keen on enabling the weaker sections to construct their houses without spending a rupee. KTR said the GHMC Buildings Tribunal was purely meant to curb construction of buildings unauthorized but not with any other intentions. He also said the aggrieved parties can challenge the Tribunal decisions in the High Court.

Stressing the urgent need to reform the Town Planning Department, the minister said the government has already recruited 120 officials and another 84 staff would be appointed shortly to improve the functioning of the department. He also made it clear that road widening works would not come under the jurisdiction of the Tribunal. KTR also said as part of slum clearance programme in the city, new houses will be constructed in the slums with the consent of owners of 30 and 20 sq yard houses.

“Let us start the process of urban development from Greater Hyderabad and it could be extended to other areas”, KTR said. Later, the House approved the Bill without any amendments. –NSS
