Google targets Modi as “Most Stupid Prime Minister in the World”
BJPs Narendra Modi became PM with a huge majority and is considered as India’s most powerful leader since Indira Gandhi. Modi is travelling all foreign countries to make India as the most desired destination to stay, by bringing in reforms and attracting a lot of foreign investment to the country.
He has support from Media for his good work; it has come as a big surprise when Google rated him negatively. He was also featured on the cover page of Time magazine that projected his vision for the country.
Google has never minced words (keywords) in their search results and put up a very negative image of Modiji. Our beloved Prime Minister’s image as the world’s top criminals a few months back. Modiji was featured along with criminals like Dawood Ibrahim and Al Capone. This disturbed the right-wing leaning denizens of the internet while amusing the Opposition. There was a huge opposition against Google and they ended up apologizing.
And now this search engine thinks that Modi is among the world’s ‘Most stupid’ prime ministers. It also contains images of Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğa.
When the right wing “Netas “opposed Google said: “These results are not in good taste but are not reflective of the opinions of Google. Sometimes, the way images are described on the internet can yield surprising results to specific queries. We apologies for any confusion or misunderstanding this has caused. We’re continually working to improve our algorithms to prevent unexpected results like this.” Google says the search algorithm is based entirely on SEO related to the search inquiry.
Google further blames a British daily for his name being searched as the “top 10 criminals in India” .The British daily which had an image of Modi and erroneous metadata. According to Google, the image search results were drawn from multiple news articles with images of Modi and his statements with regard to politicians with a criminal background.
This time an article in Reuters “why work with India’s new leaders? It is the economy stupid. The presence of the word ‘stupid’ in the headline along with an article on why the US should care more about India is the reason we see PM Modi’s picture in the search results as the “most stupid Prime Minister”.
This mistake is drawing flaks and GOOGLE finds itself in an awkward position as browsers do find some keywords “against” the search engine too.
