Golden jubilee of Roda Mistry College of Social Work Celebrations on November 18, 19

Hyderabad: The two-day golden jubilee celebrations of Roda  Mistry College of Social Work and Research Centre (ICSW-TS) will be held on November 18 and 19th  at Jeevan Jyothi Retreat House, Chikoti Garden, Begumpet here.

While Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari will inaugurate the celebrations and award gold medals to students on November 18 at 10 am,  Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary will be the chief guest at the Valedictory Function the next day.

Established in 1966 by the Indian Council of Social Welfare, the college founded by the late Roda Mistry, who served as a parliamentarian and a minister in the erstwhile united AP, it first offered a two-year Diploma in Social Work. It got recognition by the state government and started a three-year bachelor’s degree in 1972. Later the college was upgraded to post graduate centre and subsequently given permission to offer Ph.D.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Vanila Bhaskaran, Director of the college, said the institution takes pride in being one of its kind in offering social work courses since inception. During its five decades of existence, the college has contributed to the manpower needs of professional social workers and counselors in areas of welfare, development, services, industry, academics and consultancy in various capacities. The college has been preparing students with the attitudes, skills and habits of lifelong learning and leadership skills, enabling them to be useful members of a global society, she explained.

She further stated that the college is preferred by students from other countries like Nigeria, Uganda, Lesotho, Somalia, Zambia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Eritrea and Dubai.

Dr Vanila Bhaskaran said the students coming out of the college are in demand as social workers and counselors in counseling centers, human research development and human resource management fields, banking and financial institutions and several central and state government projects.

The alumni meet will be held at the college premises at Gachibowli on November 20.
