Godavari Pushkaralu in Telangana Begin on a Grand Note
HYDERABAD: The much-hyped Godavari Pushkaralu today began on a grand note with Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao and his spouse Shobha with other family members taking a holy dip – a ritual of 12-day long festivities – on the banks of Godavari at Dharmapuri in Karimnagar district.
Amid chanting of hymns and vedic mantras by noted saints and seers who took the bath as a beginning blessed the couple with traditional sprinkling of waters on their heads.
Endowment minister Indrakaran Reddy along with his family members, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, ZP Chairperson Uma, Chief Whip Eshwar, local MPs and MLAs were also took the holy dip in the Godavari at this sacred place.
Later the saints and the chief minister participated in the traditional ritual of performing pujas followed by cultural program praising the presiding deities. This time it is considered “Maha Pushkaram” as the auspicious occasion comes once in 144 years as per astronomical point of view.
It is pertinent to note that Telangana Government began Pushkarams simultaneously at five districts at a time when “Maha Kumbha Mela” was began at Naushik Triambakeshwar by Maharashtra Chief Minsiter Devendra Fadnavis, while union home minister Rajnath Singh also participated in the ritual amid much fanfare and enthusiasm of pontiffs, saints, sects and mendicants.
Then Chandrasekhar Rao opened a pylon of developmental programs of the government on the occasion. The State Government is making foolproof arrangements for the event for the first time after formation of Telangana by spending about 600 crore rupees to provide better facilities to the people and devotees.
Taking cue from the chief minister all departments plunged into swift action to provide electricity, water, road connectivity and other amenities at the Pushkar Ghats. (NSS)
