GHMC begins de-silting of nalas
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation began nala de-silting works on Tuesday at a cost of Rs. 30.18 crores in all the circles. This is the first time that the GHMC has started the nala work five months prior to the rainy season. It’s also the first time the civic body has taken this type of initiative in its history.
Every year the GHMC uses to take up these works one or two months before the onset of the monsoon. But now, as per the direction of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao and city mayor Bonthu Rammohan tenders were called well in advance and work started from January 31st onwards.
After launching the desilting works at Nacharam and Meerpet, the mayor said that it had been decided to take up these works on priority basis throughout the year.
The GHMC has major nalas, drains, small nalas, pipe drains etc. to an extent of 951 km. The de-silting works are being taken up continuously and by this year-end, all the work is expected to be completed. -NSS
