Five Crores for Basaveshwara Building: KCR
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao announced today that a big building at a cost of five crore rupees will be built in the name of Basaveshwara besides installing a statue in Hyderabad in near future.
Participating in Mahatma Basaveshwara’s 882nd Jayanthi celebrations at Ravindra Bharathi, Rao said that the Legend has it that Basaveshwara was a noted social reformer, who tried his best for the up liftment of poor and deprived classes, besides inspiring the Kakatiya Kings and their dynasty.
Rao added that the State Government will conduct Basaveshwara Jayanthi celebrations officially henceforth.
He also announced amid applause that the government will give equal importance to Balija and Lingayats noted as Veera Shaivas for their contribution in the achievement of the Telangana State.
“I will soon write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking him to include Lingayats into other backward class (OBC) community,” Rao said.
Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said he would help address the issues of Veera Shaiva Lingayats. The Sangham secretary-general Venkanna Eshwarappa urged the Centre and the State government to address their issues with due importance in legislatures.
Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy and others attended the celebrations. (NSS)
