Farm sector in doldrums, Kodandram
Hyderabad: The Kisan Congress has alleged that the agriculture sector in Telangana State is in crisis after the formation of the state and the governments here and at the Centre are showing partiality towards farmers.
TPCC Kisan Congress chairman M Kodandaram Reddy and vice-chairman Avinash Reddy have met the Central team, which is visiting the state to assess the loss incurred by heavy rains in September, and submitted a memorandum on the conditions of farmers in Telangana.
Kodandaram alleged that the farmers were facing lots of troubles as the state government failed to waive off the loans at one go. The government waived off two phases only and two more phases were there, he alleged and said that the farmers were not getting new loans. He alleged that about 2500 farmers committed suicides in the last two and half years and the government failed to extend the ex gratia to the bereaved families. He said the Centre failed to control the drought conditions and failed to implement the crop insurance and it also failed to extend the input subsidy.
