Family members pay floral tributes to NTR on 21st death anniversary
Hyderabad: The two Telugu-speaking States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh observed the 21st death anniversary of TDP founder and former chief minister NT Rama Rao on Wednesday.
Nara Bhuvaneshwari, NTR’s daughter and wife of AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, visited NTR Ghat and paid floral tributes to her father by garlanding his statue. She was accompanied by her daughter-in-law Brahmani and party leaders, including Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy and Mothkupalli Narasimhulu. A large number of party workers, who gathered near the NTR Ghat, raised “NTR Amar Hai” slogan.
NTR’s family members, including his actor-son and former member of Rajya Sabha Nandamuri Harikrishna along with his sons Kalyanram and Junior NTR also visited the NTR Ghat and paid floral tributes.
At NTR statue at Rasoolpura Crossroads in Secunderabad, Nandamuri Balakrishna paid homage to his father and flagged off a procession. Speaking on the occasion, Balakrishna said NTR lives in the hearts of the people for generations as he had taken revolutionary decisions and made unrelenting efforts for the uplift of the downtrodden and weaker sections.
He was not a person, but a power, Balakrishna said, adding NTR was one-man army, who had wrested power from then gigantic Congress party within nine months after founding Telugu Desam Party. Pressure would be exerted on the Union government to confer “Bharat Ratna” on NTR posthumously, Balakrishna said. –NSS
