EPTRI prepares State Action Plan on Climate Change

  • Two-day workshop focuses on sustainable system

Hyderabad:A�Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI), the Nodal Agency on Climate Change for the State ofA�Telangana,A�and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS & SB) have jointly organized a two-day workshop with the support of Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD),A�USA. MWRD is managing the entire sewage system, storm water drainage and the sewage treatment plants atA�Cook County,A�Illinois,A�where it has been successful in developing and operating a sustainable system.

The workshop comes in the background of Hyderabad being one of the most water stressed metro cities with insufficient waste treatment facilities, and the State Governmenta��s desire to ensure sustainable growth for the city, improving water availability and public health. MWRD and their delegates shared their experiences and good practices related to all aspects of water resources management including the creation of sustainable solutions, efficiency, governance, management, etc

EPTRI has prepared the State Action Plan on Climate Change. Besides, the State ofA�Environmental ReportA�for the State ofA�TelanganaA�andA�Hyderabad, it is also preparing a Water Report for the State ofA�Telangana. The objective of having a long-term vision for water sustainability is uppermost in the vision of the State ofA�Telangana. EPTRI is working to formulate a cogent framework towards this end. It has also been spearheading efforts for obtaining grants from various national and international agencies for projects related to climate change adaptation and mitigation. Agriculture and allied sectors, water, social welfare, industry, and energy are some of the key sectors affected by climate change and EPTRI is working diligently on projects in these areas. -NSS
