England Beats India By 5 Runs
Kolkata: England has beaten India by five runs in the third One Day International (ODI) here on Sunday. England had made 321 runs for 8 wickets setting a target of 322 runs for India to win. India were all out 316 runs. Kedar Jadhav played a heroic knock of 90 runs. He was out when India was on the verge of a clean sweep. India lost the match with Kedar’s exit. The Indian tail could not rise to the occasion. Ravichandran Aswin who usually contributes with the bat while taking maximum number of wickets was out for a single run this time. He was not successful with the ball either.
Captain Virat Kohli has made 55 and Yuvraj contributed 45 and Mahendra Singh Dhoni butted in with 25 runs. Hardik Pandya made a solid 56 for 43 balls but could not stop England from polishing the tail. Ben Stokes was the most successful England bowler who took three wickets for 63 runs. Chris soaked and Jake Ball took two wickets each. David Willet and Liam Plunkett got one wicket each.
Earlier, England made a respectable score thanks to the opener Jason Roy who hit 65 runs. Ben Stokes, the all rounder, remained unbeaten with 57. Jonny Bairstow scored 56 runs. Hardik Pandya took three wickets while Ravindra Jadeja took two. Burma claimed one wicket.
The three ODI series ended in India’s favour with 2-1. While Ben Stokes was declared ‘Man of the Match’, Kedar Jadhav was adjudged ‘Man of the Series’.
