EC Slaps Notice to Jagan on His Remarks Against Naidu
Nandyala: The Election Commission had served a notice to YSR Congress President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy seeking explanation on his comments against Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu at his election meeting here on August 3.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that “there is nothing wrong if Chandrababu Naidu is shot dead on the road for going back on his election promises.” He had also equated Chandrababu Naidu to a one who had killed his parents and sought amnesty, as he became orphan.
The TDP leaders have been making hue and cry over Jagan’s comments against Naidu. The entire cabinet has reacted to the statement, while a section of the media had highlighted it. The comment had come handy for the TDP to divert the attention of the people from the resignation submitted by TDP MLC Silpa Chakrapani Reddy, while joining the YSR Congress.
Jagan and Chakrapani Reddy have dared the TDP to get the resignations of the 20 MLAs who have defected the party to seek fresh mandate. But, this was pushed to the backstage, with the media and the TDP projecting Jagan’s comments.
The EC has sought clarification on the two comments from Jagan in the next 48 hours to the returning office in Nandyala. The returning officer would forward Jagan’s response to the EC, which would take the action required.
Meanwhile, the YSR Congress is justifying the remarks on the grounds that the remarks were just an example and were not directed at the chief minister. They further claim that the chief minister and the party MLAs have been making even more derogatory remarks against Jagan and other YSR Congress legislators even on the floor of the Assembly. It has to be seen how the EC would react once Jagan sends his response.
