Drugs Bust: Hair And Nail Samples Of Puri Too Taken
Hyderabad: A hitherto unknown fact so far undisclosed in popular film director Puri Jagannadh’s interrogation by Special Investigation Team is that his hair and nail samples too have been collected, along with those of his blood.
Sources said it is these elements of body that retain vestiges of any banned substance for the longest time. Doctors from Osmania General Hospital, who collected these samples on Wednesday, have handed them over for analysis to Central Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) located in Amberpet area of Hyderabad.
The popular director is reportedly on record that though he did drugs, he had stopped using them about six months ago. What will investigators do in the eventuality drugs being found in nail and hair samples? This is a question for which an answer will be available only after the FSL report is available.
Of the 12 celebrities that SIT has summoned for interrogation, cinematographer Syam K Naidu was the second from Telugu film industry to be questioned on Thursday. Unlike the first day, the cinematographer was grilled only for five and half hours. Syam had arrived at the Excise and Prohibition Office along with his close associates and lawyer. He was moved to a separate room before his questioning could start.
In fact, sources said, it was Charmee Kaur who was asked to present herself on Thursday. But she requested officials that she be questioned on another date, as she had to participate in an already scheduled shoot. Investigators obliged her and Syam was asked to come instead.
His interrogation was primarily based on information given by prime accused in the drugs case, Calvin Mascarenhas, and the inputs secured from Puri Jagannadh on Wednesday. Officials are said to be “satisfied” with answers the cinematographer gave.
He was asked how he got acquainted with Calvin and the number of times they had met. How many times had he gone to pubs and to parties thrown at the residence of Puri Jagannadh. Syam is believed to have told them that he is a teetotaller. But this didn’t impress investigators as drugs are a different league. He was also questioned based on WhatsAPP data recovered by those investigating the case. The cinematographer left the excise office immediately after his interrogation, avoiding the media present.
Meanwhile, SIT has also questioned representatives of courier companies, which are believed to have handled parcels of drugs. Officials held a meeting with DHL, Blue Dart and FedEx representatives and recorded their statements.
Speaking to media, Excise Commissioner R Chandravadan said Syam K Naidu had cooperated with officials during his interrogation. The Commissioner maintained that this was not an ordinary case and all its aspects, including each of the persons involved, will be thoroughly investigated.
Actor Subbaraju is expected to appear before the SIT on Friday. Actors Ravi Teja, Navdeep, Tarun, Nandu, actress Mumaith Khan and art director Chinna have also been asked to present themselves before the SIT for questioning, as per the schedule notified to them.
