New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi hailed Director K. Vishwanath for winning prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in cinemas. He described Vishwanath as an “OUTSTANDING FILM MAKER”.


Ace film director K Viswanath was presented with Phalke Award by President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday in Delhi.

As part of the 64th national film awards, Pranab has felicitated the directed who was committed to promoting Indian music and culture through cinema.

Viswanath was given a rare opportunity to speak after receiving the award. Viswanath who started his short speech with ‘Endaroo Mahaanubhaavulu, Andariki Dhanyavaadaalu’. He thanked all his admirers across the world.

Union Information & Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has complimented Viswanath on this occasion. He said Viswanath’s films don’t show violence and obscenity. Viswanath had received national award for his magnum opus, Shankarabharanam. He also got ten Filmfare awards and six Nandi awards.

Dada Saheb Phalke Award is given to those who made extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema. This award was instituted by Information & Broadcasting Ministry in 1969. A Golden lotus, a shawl and ₹10 lakh were presented to Viswanath. Earlier, this coveted award was received by LV Prasad, Nagi Reddy, BN Reddy and Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Shantaram and other stalwarts were chosen for this award from Hindi cinema industry.

Viswanath received a grand welcome at Shamshabad airport today with T minister T.Srinivas Yadav welcoming him with garlands. T government is planning to felicitate Viswanath in grand style in coming days as per Srinivas Yadav.
