Dinesh Kumar Is Now AP Chief Secretary

Vijayawada: Dinesh Kumar, a 1983 Batch IAS officer, who has been appointed as new Chief Secretary of Government of Andhra Pradesh on Friday assumed charge at 3:33 pm in Chief Secretary Chamber, AP Secretariat, Velagapudi, succeeding Ajay Kallam.

After taking charge, Dinesh Kumar called on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and took his blessings. The new CS thanked the CM for reposing faith and giving an opportunity to serve Andhra Pradesh as Chief Secretary.

He assured to put all out efforts to implement the vision of the CM to provide inclusive growth and development of backward regions and weaker sections of the society. Dinesh Kumar also thanked his predecessor Ajay Kallam for his support and praised his commitment and dedication to various developmental activities.

Several senior bureaucrats IAS, IPS, IFS, Heads of Departments, employees of Secretariat, Associations met Dinesh Kumar and congratulated him on his elevation as Chief Secretary.

Born on September 16, 1958, Dinesh Kumar joined IAS in 1983. He had worked in the combined AP State and held key positions like district collector of Anantapur and Adilabad, additional commissioner of revenue, commissioner, Social Welfare, joint managing director APTRANSCO, secretary irrigation, chairman & managing director, APCPDCL, commissioner, Disaster Management principal secretary, energy, finance and principal secretary to the CM and so on.

He later served in the Central Services in the rank of joint secretary, additional secretary in textiles, water resources development, chief executive officer (CEO) of Polavaram Authority. Prior to assuming charge as Chief Secretary, he worked as Special Chief Secretary, Panchayat Raj & Rural Development. (NSS)

Ajay Kallam serves as AP Chief Secretary for March

Amaravati: Seniority prevailed in the appointment of the Chief Secretary for Andhra Pradesh with Chief Minister finally clearing the name of Ajay Kallam, who takes over from C S Tucker retiring on February 28. Kallam will serve as CS for the Month of March as he is scheduled to retire on March 31. Though the State government tried to get extension for Kallam from the central government, it could not succeed. At one point of time, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wanted to clear the name of Dinesh Kumar as Chief Secretary skipping Kallam as he had only one month service and the Center had not cleared the proposal for extension.

However, seniority prevailed over Chief Minister’s selection of the CS and Kallam ws finally named to serve as CS for the shortest period. He would assume on March 1 and retire on March 31, leaving the post to Dinesh Kumar to succeed.

Kallam as principle secretary in finance and energy departments, besides the Capital Region Development Authority, had created history by keeping the power sector atop in the country and winning awards for the State from the Central government. It was for his meritorious services that Chief Minister wanted Kallam to be the CS with term extended by the Central government. Though the Central government failed to give extension to Kallam, the Chief Minister said that the senior IAS officer would serve as the CS till his retirement.

Dinesh Kumar likely to be AP Chief Secretary

  • Tucker to retire tomorrow

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is working on naming rural development principle secretary Dinesh Kumar as the new Chief Secretary of the State. The Chief Minister is likely to clear the name by February 28 as incumbent Chief Secretary S P Tucker is scheduled to retire on the day.

Though the Chief Minister wanted to appoint senior IAS officer and finance principle secretary Ajay Kallam, he dropped the proposal as Kallam is scheduled to retire on March 31 with just a month to be in office. He had reportedly consulted the Central government to get extension for Kallam. The Union Ministry of Personnel and Public Grievances, which looks into the affairs of the all India service officers had reportedly turned down the request. However, the Chief Minister is said to be lobbying with the Prime Minister’s Office to get extension for Ajay Kallam.

The sources said that the Chief Minister is also thinking on naming Dinesh Kumar as the next Chief Secretary. It is said that the announcement about the new Chief Secretary is likely to be made anytime on Tuesday.
