DIG Roopa Refuses To Apologise Over Her Rs 2 Crore Bribe Charge Against DGP Satyanarayana
Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Inspector General D Roopa has stuck to her guns and refused to apologise over her allegations that Rs 2 crore bribe has been paid to officials of Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bangaluru in exchange of special privileges to VIP prisoner VK Sasikala, AIADMK (Amma) General Secretary, who is imprisoned in the jail over her involvement in a disproportionate assets case.
Apology was sought from her by Karnataka DGP Satyanarayana Rao, who is the main person accused by DIG Roopa in the bribe-for-special privileges case.
DGP Satyanarayana has claimed that he did nothing wrong and if DIG Roopa does not apologise to him within three days, he will be filing a defamation case against her for Rs 50 crores. The DGP has sent legal notices to Roopa in this regard last Wednesday.
The DGP’s argument is that Sasikala received an ‘A’ category convict status through court last February. Hence, providing special clothes, meals and chairs and tables is not illegal.
However, refusing to issue any apology, DIG Roopa said that she has already provided the necessary evidence in her reports. She asserted that she has only done what a responsible government officer should do. She has reported the same to higher ups and is ready for a legal struggle over this.
It may be recalled that soon after the DIG submitted her report on privileges being provided to Sasikala and others, she was transferred to the Traffic Division.
