Devinenis To Join TDP on Sept 15
- Meet Naidu
- Quit Congress
- Expelled, Cong Claims
Vijayawada: Former Minister and APCC Vice-President Devineni Rajasekhar Nehru and his son and AP Youth Congress President Avinash had met TDP President and AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday. Both Nehru and Avinash sent their resignation letters to the Congress Party leadership. Nehru’s follower and Krishna District Congress Kadiala Butchibabu had also quit the party as expected in political circles.
All the three met Naidu at the latter’s river view residence to inform him that they would like to return to the TDP on September 15. APTDP President Kala Venkat Rao was also present at the meeting.
The APCC, however, had announced the suspension of the three leaders from the party on Tuesday with immediate effect. This announcement came even before the resignations reached the APCC office.
‘ I was one of the founders of the party. I had to leave the party during a painful phase in the party. I am now coming back to the parent party to be part of the development Amaravati, the designated capital’ said Nehru.
Nehru commented that his son Avinash who started his political career with the Congress party is feeling but uncomfortable with the decision to shift to the TDP. He will come round, said Nehru.
It is a huge loss to the Congress, feel political observers. The party could put up some resistance to the government efforts to build new capital by indulging in land pooling. Nehru and his followers were the main stay of the Congress. With his departure the Congress has been reduced to a cypher in the most important district in the State.
Though there is no additional advantage to the TDP in the induction of Devinenis, it would certainly remove the stumbling block in the way of capital building. There would be proliferation of leaders in the ruling party. The TDP leaders have their apprehensions about Nehru’s return.
