Delimitation: AP & TS BJP Units Differ On Centre’s Move
Hyderabad: A Cabinet note is being prepared in Home Ministry to effect an increase in the number of seats in the legislative assemblies of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, but this decision is being opposed by Telangana unit of BJP while it is being supported by AP unit.
Telangana BJP is strongly opposing the move to amend the Act in order to increase the number Assembly seats. According to them, it will benefit TRS and Majlis and not the BJP.
AP BJP unit, however, is in favour of the decision as they can bargain for more seats from its ally, ruling party TDP, in next elections.
Each Parliamentary constituency constitutes seven assembly segments at present, but after delimitation, the number may go up to nine assembly segments and the number of Assembly constituencies may change to 153 in Telangana and 225 in AP.
