Defamation Charges Against Kamal Haasan And Others On Big Boss
Chennai: Actor Kamal Haasan, who has been courting controversies of late, has been slapped with defamation notice for his comments on the Bigg Boss reality show. Others similarly notified are Bigg Boss contestant and choreographer Gayatri Raghuram, a production company and the private television channel airing the reality show.
The notice has been served on Monday by Puthiya Tamizhagam, a Dalit party, on grounds that Kamal Haasan, Gayatri Raghuram and others had hurt the sentiments of those living in slums and huts.
Puthiya Tamizhagam has sought Rs 100 crore as damages if the actor, choreographer and the TV channel fail to tender an unconditional apology within seven days of receipt of the notice.
Party President, Dr K Krishnasamy, told reporters on Monday that he had already demanded an apology 15 days ago for remarks made by Gayatri Raghuram, who referred to behaviour of a participant in the show as that of those living in slums and huts. The notice has been only issued after they failed to apologise, he added.
Further, if they refuse to apologise within seven days of receipt of this notice, he would approach the High Court seeking Rs 100 crore as damages, Krishnasamy said.
He accused Kamal and others of encouraging casteist behaviour for TRPs.
