Dasari, One Of The Great Personalities I Met
(K Ankababu from USA)
Dasari Narayana Rao, Telugu cinema legend who passed away on Tuesday, was a multi-faceted personality excelling in arts, writing, film production, direction, politics and manyA more genres.
He was a true liberal who gave freedom to his journalists which no other owner of any media wouldA dare to give.
Dasari never put any constraints on investigative journalism. He took the risk by allowing bold and critical items published. Many politicians, businessmen, community leaders have complained many times against me , unable to bear the truth established in the news stories. He never even asked for any clarification from me about the stories filed by me during his ownership.
I have written on many ministers, the then CM NTR, the CongressA leaders, community leaders but there was never a word of caution or restraint from the editor or the owner. I have also published blasting investigative reports toA which Dasari never objected or scrutinised . That was the faith he had in his colleagues.
The first multi-colour daily in india was udayam.
The first district tabloid was brought out by Udayam which was followed by others later.
Dasari never interfered in selection of reporters or journalists for paper.
Sivaranjani was cine weekly which was largest circulated in those days.
He was humane.
Helped many journalists who were in difficulties.
He used to donate huge amounts for social causes.
He has directed nation’s award winning film Balipeetham produced by our family.
I worked as chief reporter, chief coordinator, resident editor of udayam during his period.
I was invited by US Government to witness the US presidential inauguration in 1993 Benz of Dasari garu.
HeA reacted on cyclone calamityA in 1990 and organised Udayam Seva Udyamam through whichA he helped many in east and west Godavari dists.
Recently , he called me to discuss about the re launch of udayam daily which may not take place because of his demise. It was his dream.
