CS, French team discuss tram service
Hyderabad: Chief Secretary SP Singh said on Wednesday there was ample scope to improve public transport system in the capital city by tying up with private sector.
The Chief Secretary held a meeting at the Secretariat here on Wednesday with GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and a French delegation on the proposal to setting up a tramway in the city. The French team informed the Chief Secretary that they are ready to hand over a smart transport system to TSRTC through tramcar. The tramcar can be built using efficient technology that reduces pollution and protect natural resources.
Speaking on the occasion, SP Singh said the tramway proposal will be taken up with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao. A project of better transport system is to be prepared covering all historic places in the city. Metro Rail works are going on in the city comprising wide roads and there is a need to conduct a feasibility study on pilot basis on the tramway system, he said.
TSRTC Chairman S Satyanarayana, MD Ramana Rao, Roads & Buildings Principal Secretary Sunil Sharma, Bordex Metropolitan councilor Michael Vernjol, Alfred Peter and mark Barani were present. –NSS
